free.comp.dns is intended for technical DNS discussion centering around how to provide DNS name service for Internet domains.
Examples of appropriate topics: how to configure a name server, how to best use subdomains, and how to request and provide reverse lookup delegation. Security advisories and release announcements regarding commonly used DNS software are also appropriate. Inappropriate topics include advocacy (e.g. ISC BIND vs. Microsoft) flame wars, DNS policy (e.g. root server authority, new or alternative TLDs), and advertising (commercial, job etc.).
Off-topic articles, multiposted articles, excessively crossposted articles, and articles with binary (except for PGP/OpenPGP signatures) or HTML content are inappropriate for free.comp.dns.
In order to facilitate filtering, participants should begin the Subject: line of product-specific articles with a suitable product name abbreviation, and optionally a main version number, in brackets, e.g.:
Troubleshooting requests should include authentic "copy-paste" information about the domain in question. Riddles such as mydomain.com and 111.222.333.444 make helping difficult, are strongly discouraged, and will probably not receive useful responses.
